Of course, most of the available photos are of the queen's granddaughter, Zara Phillips, who was part of Great Britain's Silver Medal winning team, thus making her the first member of the Royal family to medal in the Olympics.

Equestrian competition starts on Saturday at the Olympic Games

The competition runs from July 28th thru August 9th at Greenwich Park in London

Medals will be awarded in six events, individual and team dressage, jumping and eventing.
Dressage is where the horse and rider are expected to perform from memory a series of predetermined movements.
Jumping is self explanatory but scores are determined by whether the horse attempts to jump an obstacle,  clears it and finishes the course in the allotted time.
Eventing is the equestrian equivalent to a triathlon, comprising dressage, cross-country and show jumping.

The most recognizable athlete in this Olympic event is certainly Zara Phillips, the grand daughter of Queen Elizabeth of England.  Zara has appeared on this blog before both in equestrian gear and 'civilian' clothing.
